MINOT, N.D. – In this week’s Medical Minute, a new deadly virus that originated in China has made its way to the United States.
A U.S. citizen was hospitalized near Seattle after contracting the disease in central China.
Health officials in Minot say there are ways to protect yourself from getting most viruses while traveling.
“Make sure that you are up to date on all your vaccinations because they do help prevent from getting additional viruses and things that can be transmitted, and if you do get them, they will be less severe,” said Roxanne Vendsel, director of nursing at First District Health Unit.
Vendsel also suggests avoiding aisle seats while taking public transportation and to wipe hotel remote controls, public handrails, and doorknobs when you can.
The CDC says it is closely monitoring the virus.
